Goring Chamber Choir
has just returned from a flying visit to Bilbao in Spain where it
performed two concerts.
The first was in
Bilbao Cathedral on Friday, April 16th, and the second concert was
in Durango, just outside Bilbao, in the Basilica Santa Maria de
Durango the following evening.
Such was the choir’s
popularity it received standing ovations and was asked to sing
anthems during the Sunday morning mass in Bilbao Cathedral before
flying back to the UK.
Musical director,
Frances Brewitt-Taylor, said: "The trip was a great success, both
socially and musically, maintaining the standard set by the work we
did for our recent CD.
"Both venues were
packed, and it was enormously rewarding for all of us to see such a
positive response from our audiences."
Choir chairman,
Stuart Crippen, said: "The choir was received with the utmost
cordiality and given generous hospitality.
"We have extended an
invitation to the Bilbao Cathedral Choir and the choir of the
Basilica Santa Maria de Durango to come to Goring. Arrangements will
shortly begin to schedule the visit, probably some time early in
2005."
Last autumn the choir
recorded its first CD, in Malvery College Chapel. Copies can be
obtained from choir members, or by telephoning 01491 671750.
